Farmers Market Pet Policy
Dogs and other animals are not allowed in Green Bay Farmers Markets including the Saturday Farmers Market and the Farmers' Market on Broadway. Under Chapter 28 of Municipal Code, section 28-4 (i), animals are prohibited in City Parks and Farmers Markets. Although there are some exceptions to the Parks rule (dogs and their owners can walk through parks while on a leash and dog owners have to pick up any waste), these same exceptions do not apply to the Farmers Markets.
We all love our animals too, but there are laws/ordinances in place to not only protect your pet, but other people. Non-service pets may be kept on the sidewalks of the event. We appreciate your cooperation!
Service dogs will be allowed at all times in the market, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Emotional support animals are not allowed as they are not covered by the ADA.
More about service animals, emotional support animals, and the ADA:
Entities covered by the ADA are only able to ask two questions to those with service animals. They may ask if the service animal is required because of a disability, and what tasks the animal is trained to do. The entities may only ask these questions if the answers are not readily apparent.
Emotional support animals, comfort animals, and therapy dogs are not service animals under Title II and Title III of the ADA.
How the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Separates an ESA and a Service Animal
The American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) is the law that protects people with a disability from any form of discrimination. Within the Act, there are provisions that cover people’s use of animals to assist them with a disability.
Under the ADA a service animal is one trained to perform tasks directly related to the person’s disability. Within the Act, an emotional support animal is one that provides a person with a diagnosed mental health condition, emotional support, well-being, comfort, or companionship. They are not considered a service animal.
