Details

In production since 2018, the documentary explores the enduring legacy of Richard Davis, a virtuoso bass player whose career spanned collaborations with musical giants such as Miles Davis, VanMorrison, and Eric Dolphy. Beyond his performance career, Davis dedicated himself to music education, profoundly impacting the lives of young musicians as a beloved professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The film was directed by StoryFirst Media co-founder and filmmaker Michael Neelsen whose true crime documentary Beyond Human Nature was hailed as "a fascinating story" by The Los Angeles Times. The film was produced by StoryFirst media co-founder Dave Neelsen, as well as Richard Davis Foundation executives Catherine Harris and Peter Dominguez.
Set against the backdrop of the annual conference put on by The Richard Davis Foundation for Young Bassists in 2018, String Theory: The Richard Davis Method offers an intimate look into Davis' teaching philosophy, his passion for music, and his deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent.
