With the U.S. Supreme Court poised to strike down a key part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, what is the future of racial representation in the United States? Professor emeritus David Canon of the Political Science Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will answer that question, discuss the background of racial redistricting, and examine the implications of the Supreme Court's decision on the midterm elections.
David Canon has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1991. Before that, he taught for five years at Duke University. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota. He teaches classes and does research on congressional politics, race and politics, and election reform.
This event is made possible through the University of Wisconsin-Madison's BadgerTalks, which helps spread the Wisconsin Idea across the state by engaging residents on topics they care about, sharing the latest discoveries of UW faculty, staff and graduate students, and helping spark ideas and conversations on topics of local importance.
