Details

The 79th Art Annual exhibit is an all-media, juried exhibition of current artworks produced by artists living in the counties of Northeastern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

This juried art exhibition began in 1942 during the height of World War II. For over three-quarters of a century, many of this region’s most celebrated and talented artists have exhibited their work as part of this Green Bay tradition.

The juror for the 79th Art Annual is Paul Salsieder. Paul is the Gallery Manager at Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art in Milwaukee. The gallery, established in 2008 and directed by Debra Brehmer, showcases regional artists who cross boundaries of economics, gender, and race. Brehmer and Salsieder work closely to expand the ways in which art is shown, inspire contact and dialog, and foster a sense of community within the gallery’s orbit. Additionally, Salsieder has an interest in self-taught and underrepresented practices. Along with Brehmer, Salsieder is co-curator of Art Against the Odds, a major traveling exhibition showing the practices of sixty-five incarcerated artists working within Wisconsin’s prison system. Art Against the Odds has previously travelled to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD); the Rahr West Museum, Manitowoc; and the Neville Public Museum. Salsieder received his BA in Art History and Studio Art from Carthage College, Kenosha, WI.
