About the Artist
Artist: David Carpenter
Artist Statement:
This mural was created was by local artist, David Carpenter. He used modern technology to create this digital painting that depicts a typical scene in the late 1930’s at Sham O’Briens Emerald Isle Tavern located here at 1139 Main Street. It is considered the Original Packer Fan Bar due to its close proximity to City Stadium. The tavern was owned and operated by Sham O'Brien who can be seen on the far right of the image throwing a football to one of his patrons. The man with his back to the viewer is presumably George Whitney Calhoun, a founder of the Green Bay Packers. The painting utilizes a combination of loose brush strokes and dramatic lighting in an attempt to capture the mood and activity of the moment.
