PRESS RELEASE: Call and Response Service--Honoring Greater Green Bay’s First Responders

Saturday, Feb 1, 2PM - 3PM

Union Congregational United Church of Christ, 716 S. Madison Street, Green Bay

Want to do something other than say, “Thank you for your service” to support those women and men who put their lives on the line to keep us safe?

Come join us on Saturday, February 1, 2PM to hear some great music, to sing along with some classic tunes, and to hear some powerful stories that celebrate and honor greater Green Bay’s first responders. Lend your support by showing up for these public servants!

Call and Response is a famous pattern in many kinds of music. In it, a leader calls out or plays a melody, and the rest of a group responds with the same tune or lyrics. We have patterned this one-hour ecumenical and interfaith service to incorporate music of call and response, and some other appropriate tunes, to honor First Responders.

For instance, have you ever felt, “Down, and troubled, and need a helping hand?” Then you know that in a First Responder, “You’ve Got a Friend.”

Or, have you ever felt, “Tossed and Driven on the Restless Sea of Time?” Then you’ll know that when you call 9-1-1, your First Responders will be there--and not just “By and By.”

Have there been times when you feel like you’re “Climbing Jacob’s Ladder?” Well, imagine that ladder reaching into a burning building, and you’ll understand how sometimes, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.”

Or, do you ache in “Body and Soul?” Then “Call Me” (and that First Responder will surely “be around.”)

Music will be provided by the Union Jazz Collective--which includes Pegasis (The Peguero Sisters--Marvelis, Rissel, and Yaina), with Matt Hillman on guitar, Andrew Bader on bass, Dr. Adam Gaines on trumpet, Dr. Bill Sallak on drums, and Sam Stranz on saxophones, with other special guests.

For further information, contact Dr. Jon Pahl, Minister of Faith Formation and Community Engagement at Union Church--610-909-7107 or jon@unionucc.com

Proceeds will benefit among other non-profits Project Six Wisconsin, an agency dedicated to supporting local police, firefighters, EMS workers, veterans, and their families.

This service is supported by a generous grant from the Calvin University Institute of Christian Worship.
