Be the Light Walk Returns to Green Bay to Reduce Stigma, Unite Community
The 16th annual Be The Light Walk returns to downtown Green Bay on Saturday, September 7th, 2024 to light up the night with hope and healing for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. Learn more about organizations and agencies around Northeast Wisconsin who are actively working toward the goal of prevention, intervention and postvention at our Resource Fair. Captain Sean Elsten, husband and father of 3 who is a 26-year fire service member of the Fort Wayne Fire Department, will be speaking in the evening. Captain Elsten is a recording artist and mental health advocate who will share a story of hope, healing, and inspiration through music and speech. The night will conclude with a picturesque 1-mile candlelight walk.

Each year, over 850 Wisconsin residents die by suicide, and in Brown County alone, approximately 40 people die annually by suicide. Suicide is preventable.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Brown County Coalition for Suicide Prevention. The Coalition membership is diverse blend of 39 partners representing schools, healthcare organizations, behavioral health providers and advocacy groups, government agencies, police and fire departments, veteran-focused groups, local businesses and community members that have banded together to restore hope and save lives through evidence-based, community-focused initiatives such as the LOSS Team and QPR Training.

Since 2008, over 39,019 community members have been trained in the Question, Persuade, Refer suicide prevention model. Since 2008, 12,838 adults and 26,181 youth were trained in suicide prevention strategies.

Online registration is available through September 7th at bethelightwalk.com. Participants can pick up their registration packet at designated times at the KI Convention Center on Friday and Saturday.
