Join us for a reading and Q&A at Lion's Mouth Bookstore in honor of the second edition of Joan Treppa's Reclaiming Lives: Pursuing Justice for Six Innocent Men.

In November 1992, the country watched as the city of Green Bay, Wisconsin grappled with a tragic death at a local paper mill. In 1995, a two-and-a-half year investigation led to a lengthy, 28-day joint trial. An overwhelmed jury sentenced six paper mill employees labeled as “The Monfils Six” to life in prison for the murder of fellow coworker, Tom Monfils. To this day, all six of these men maintain their absolute innocence.

Years later in 2001, one of the men, Michael Piaskowski, was exonerated. In 2009, a handful of individuals dared to publicly challenge the other five convictions. Their unwavering determination sparked the beginning of a movement that gained momentum and reached across state lines into Minnesota.

Joan’s book, Reclaiming Lives, delves deep into the mystery of what may have happened to Tom Monfils. Told from her non-legal perspective, which provides an easy to understand example of the inner workings of the criminal justice system, she takes readers on a roller coaster ride through newly revealed facts and more recent developments in the case. Her book also highlights her unexpected life-changing transformation as she advocates for strangers in what becomes an important and deeply personal journey for justice.

Also joining the author for this event will be one of the six men who lived through this experience. Both will read excerpts from Reclaiming Lives.
